A Study on Flea Index in Certain Area of South Vietnam

Abstract
The Study on the flea index in Danang City, South Vietnam conducted during March 1969 through February 1970 is summarized.
1. The flea index in the city was closely related to plague incidence.
In the other word, the plague incidence of the city was increased according to the rise of flea index.
The correlation coefficient between the flea index and plague was r=0.51
2. The distribution of captured rats;
By sex - Female 60.0%
Male 40.0%
By description - R. norvegicus 386(50.1%)
R. rattus 245(31.8%)
S. murinus 139(18.1%)
Most of captured rats were R. norvegicus and female.
3. The efficiency of insecticides dusting was so effected that the post-dusting flea index of the city has decreased to 2.1 form 4.1 of pre-dusting.
4. The flea index manifested converse phenomenon to the rain fall.
The correlation cofeficients between the flea index and rain fall were; pre-dusting flea index r=-0.33 and post-dusting flea index r=-0.31
5. The correlation coefficients between the flea index and humidity were; pre-dusting flea index r=-0.1 and post-dusting flea index r=-0.45.
6. The results of flea resistant test to insecticides in the city revealed that rat fleas tested were resistant to D.D.T and susceptible to lindane and malathion.
